Have you ever had a sparkling wine from Liguria, the second smallest wine producing region in Italy? I had not until a few weeks ago. I had read about the small amount of wine that is produced there because it is mainly steep mountainous slopes making it very hard to grow and pick grapes here.  The grapes that are grown here are called heroic due to these extreme circumstances.

We recently added Durin Vino Spumante di Quality Brut Metodo Classico “Canei” to our list! It is a champagne style sparkling made from the local pigato grape (95%) and vermentino grape (5%) from 50 year old vines. It is harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel with the secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle for one year. It is a zero dosage brut so it is crisp, tangy with hints of pears and green apples.

Come try a bottle the next time you are in!
